In 2015 we were invited by Chad Clark and his live musical group Beauty Pill to collaborate on a custom sound design for
"Immersive Ideal", a series of live performances in Arlington Va. gallery Artisphere.
The concept was to remove separation from the audience and performers, while simultaneously increasing the listeners ability to experience the event from multiple perspectives, both visually and sonically.
We wanted the listener to have the freedom to move amongst the musicians, and to be able to experience musical arrangements from "inside".
The solution was to set up the 5 musicians in a circle facing inward, each on their own riser, full range audio system, and audio mix.
Technically, this allowed us to experiment with spatialization and movement of audio by implementing 5.2 surround in a live performance environment, while also allowing audience the ability to move freely in between each musician. Artistically, we challenged the format of contemporary performance and implied boundaries between performer and spectator, as well as standard sonic presentation.
The series was an overwhelming success critically, and all performances were at capacity.
